From lick pads to smart collars: The science and trends behind the world's hottest pet products
As pet owners around the world increasingly consider their furry friends "important family members," it's not uncommon to see pet birthday parties, subscription box unboxing videos, and new tech gadgets on social media. Did you know? These viral products aren't just marketing gimmicks; they reflect long-term scientific research on behavioral stress relief, preventive health care, and the deepening of the human-pet bond for dogs and cats.
We've compiled a list of the hottest pet products on international social media and e-commerce platforms recently, analyzing the reasons for their popularity, as well as the underlying industry trends and consumer shifts, from a research perspective.
1. Lick Mats: A new favorite for anxiety relief
These silicone or plastic mats allow dogs and cats to prolong their eating time through the "licking action", effectively distracting their attention and reducing separation anxiety.
According to a 2023 study in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior, regular tongue licking can induce the release of calming hormones (such as serotonin) in dogs, effectively lowering heart rate and stress response.
On e-commerce platforms Etsy and Amazon, searches for "Lick Mat" products increased by more than 91% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, making it the top healing product.
2. GPS smart collar | Not just for preventing loss, but also for health monitoring
Smart collars from American brands Tractive and SATELLAI, for example, not only provide GPS positioning and virtual fences but also integrate breathing, heart rate, activity, and sleep monitoring functions, gradually becoming the new standard for high-end pet owners.
According to a technical application study published by arXiv in 2024, such devices can be combined with deep learning models to identify abnormal behaviors and provide immediate warning functions for anxious pets, elderly pets, and dogs with a history of epilepsy.
Tractive's global sales exceeded 100 million euros in the first half of 2025 and it is rapidly expanding in the European and US markets.
Last year, p'adore also collaborated with the Silicon Valley Engineering Team to grandly launch in 2025: the world's first [Dog and Cat Physical and Emotional Detection and Management APP]. Combining veterinary traditional Chinese medicine and behavioral science, it uses simple guided questions and answers, through daily observation and recording, to help owners detect the possible individual physical and emotional conditions of their furry pets at this stage, and provide free feedback and care suggestions and reports as a reference for adjustments to diet and lifestyle care.
Currently, there are two operating versions of the app, iOS and Android. In addition to the physical and emotional behavior detection function for dogs and cats, there are also knowledge-type articles. Fresh food recipe application and sharing will be launched soon. Owners can download it for free on the APP Store or Google Play, and help their furry friends to update and manage them at any time.
🔹3. Dog-Exclusive Birthday Party | A Ritual Explosion in the Empathy Economy
The Times reported that the UK spends 1.7 billion pounds on pet birthdays each year, with the average owner spending up to 121 pounds (about NT$4,800) on celebrating their furry pet's birthday.
A 2024 study published in the People & Animals Journal showed that when humans create rituals for their pets, it triggers similar brain areas involved in caring for young children, fostering a stronger emotional connection between humans and pets. This explains why "shared cake" and "pet holiday sets" are both trending on social media and selling well online.
🔹4. Pet Probiotics and Functional Snacks | A New Trend in Human-Pet Health
From collagen chews to fur care bars to probiotic snacks that aid digestion, this type of "functional snack" is quickly becoming mainstream.
According to the Technavio 2025 report, the global pet health supplement market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 9.2%, with probiotic supplements accounting for the largest proportion.
The American Veterinary Nutrition Association recommends that if the products have safety verification and professional guidance, these health supplements can indeed help improve gastrointestinal, joint and immune problems, and are an entry-level project for pet owners to establish the concept of preventive care.
5. Cats and Concrete: An Unexpected Social Meme
This year, TikTok unexpectedly sparked a craze about "Why cats love to lie on concrete slabs," with videos reaching tens of millions of views. While this may sound absurd, it actually has a behavioral basis.
American feline behaviorists note that cats have a particular preference for rough, odor-absorbing textures. Lying on concrete helps them mark their territory and absorb heat from the ground, giving them a sense of security. This buzz has also led many brands to develop "concrete-like" cat platforms and mats, turning this into a commercial opportunity.
📌 Summary of observations from p'adore Today:
📣 Reminder: Behind the product craze is the fusion of science and life. Whether you're a brand, service provider, or pet owner, as long as you focus on the real needs of your furry friends, there's endless room for innovation and empathy.
